Collective Hours of Your Life, Which Appeared Wasted, Were Made Worthwhile Today

Big Brother has spent literally hundreds of hours flying thousands of miles in the last few years, occasionally having to settle for business class on a commercial airliner. Before every commercial flight the flight attendants go through the boring instructions about what to do in case of a water landing. You probably never paid much attention, thinking the whole thing was a waste of time. An airplane has never successfully landed on water. Until today.
Congratulations to all 155 people onboard USAirways Flight 1549 for surviving under the most longshot circumstances. The pilots and crew are being hailed as heroes. Their quick-thinking and calm undoubtably saved most of those lives, but Captain Chesley Sullenberger would be the first to tell you that when he was setting that plane down he expected it to end up scattered in pieces on the bottom of the Hudson river. Training and excellence played a part, but that is not always enough. Sometimes you need to get lucky.
