Your Big Brother on the Internet

King of America

Someone Else You Should Know Today:

Paul Emerson Washington (b.1926), likely heir of the American Royal dynasty had George Washington been made King instead of unanimously elected first President of the United States.  This was more possible than you might think. When The United States was formed under the original Articles of Confederation, all the major powers in the world were monarchies.  The concept of being led by a President was as foreign then as the idea of United States being led by a king is today.  The American Monarchy was abandoned primarily at the insistence of General Washington who had spent five years fighting the rule of the British Monarchy in the American Colonies.

Big Brother has long advocated the establishment of an American Monarchy.  Not as a replacement of the President as the Head of Government but as the new Head of State.  The Federal Government would exist as it does currently, with Congress, The President and The Supreme Court maintaining their powers. The King would exist in a ceremonial role,  and would represent the best interests of The People and remind the transitory elected officials of the continuing permanent traditions of democracy in America, similar to the British Monarch who serves as an informal advisor to the Parliament. Queen Elizabeth II has no real power but no major legislation or executive decision happens without first being presented to her.

It is no coincidence that Great Britain announced its withdrawal from Iraq the day after it was announced that Prince Harry’s unit in the Royal Army would be stationed there.  Would Congress or the President been able to resist public pressure if a member of the American Royal Family had been sent to Vietnam? A King (or Queen, this is a egalitarian society) would be a voice of reason, and present the common sense of the public, without being disposed to political posturing or being forced to appeal to the basest instincts of fickle voters.  A King can put a kibosh on the boneheaded actions of an executive or legislature with an economy of well chosen words. A King would respond to domestic  wiretapping with: “We do not think that is such a good idea,” could suggest: “We really think those levies in New Orleans could break,” or point out: “We do not understand how a pile of poor quality mortgages can become a high quality bond.”

“Wait,” you ask, “don’t the British have a love/hate relationship with their Royal Family? Aren’t the Australians trying to remove Queen Elizabeth II as their Head of State?”

Big Brother reminds you that the House of Windsor is inbred and rich, and therefore prone to the poor judgment displayed by the stupid and the excesses displayed by the careless. America’s likely King, Paul Emerson Washington  is a retired sales manager for a building supply company, and is by all counts humble, intelligent and spends most of his time caring for his infirmed wife.  His family has no wealth greater than the average American one. The King of America would be an impoverished monarch.  The Federal Government would provide him a nice house in Washington, Secret Service protection, travel on the Presidential fleet, and put The Royal Family on the Congressional Health Plan. A reasonable stipend would mean The King would not require an outside job and nurses would care for the first King’s wife.  Since, The King would be on the public dole, he would be dependent on the goodwill of the American people and fully understand that his well-being is determined by the success of the country.

That is All,

Big Brother
